New Message of the Day

Ordinarily The Organizer Lady does not use the
four letter word — LAZY because we do care about
our houses and want to work at getting them in order.
Looking at the word, however, can be beneficial if
we define laziness as the avoidance of doing a small,
easy job which will have a significant benefit either
by itself or because of its cumulative effect. We may
find it useful to think about how it impacts our
lives. Examples are:

• Returning items immediately to where they belong.
• Solving problems quickly, things like wiping up
spills or picking up trash which might have missed
the basket, sewing on a button.
• Following through to completeness on the spot like
putting dirty clothes in the proper hamper, hanging
up coats and jackets right away when taking them off,
putting shoes where they belong.
• Taking the time to take one more minute to do it right,
like walking the garbage all the way out to the garbage
can instead of leaving it on the back porch, folding the
map instead of leaving it unfolded, putting toilet paper
on the roll.
• Doing that job that you really need to do but have
• Paying bills in a timely manor.

Each of us deals with these issues in a different way.
Do whatever it takes in your life to begin to turn the
tide so that we begin doing small, easy jobs consistently.
I don’t think any of us are actually lazy. But when we
neglect little jobs consistently, the house looks
like we are. Today take one tiny little step to break
through any spot or spots where you are stuck.

New Habit of the Day

LOOK BACK, REALLY LOOK BACK! When you finish an
area or room, go to the door and focus on seeing
what you have done. Make yourself tune in visually
because much of order comes from what you see. Use
an empty toilet paper roll or make a circle of your
hand to help you concentrate.

New Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your
own to share with your family each day.

In our family, we don’t drop our things when we come
in the door. We take them and put them where they belong.

In our family, we put dirty clothes into the hamper as
soon as we take them off.

New Quote of the Day

If the elevator is broken, use the stairs!

Look, folks, it doesn’t matter whether we use the
traditional way or some other methods to bring our
houses into order. The point is, we are committed
to getting the job done one way or the other.
Whatever it takes.

From the Trenches (Thanks to Benita)

One thing that really helped me was to go thru
all the toys and get rid of most of them! LOL I got rid
of all the toys that they just picked up, looked at and
dropped. I only kept the educational toys and books and
the toys that had multi-purpose ways to play with them.
Like Tinker toys, duplos, blocks, train set, lincoln logs,
car rug and cars, etc. Just the creative ones. We also
have the rule that they can play with only one thing at
a time unless they’re playing with 2 things together. So they
have to pick up the toy they’re finished with BEFORE THEY
GO ON TO ANYTHING ELSE. No snack, etc. unless they pick
it up. Otherwise they get sidetracked and I’d forget about
it in another room and then they’d be another mess out
someplace else! It takes some time bending over them at
first, making sure everything gets picked up but then
they get in the habit of it.

P.S. from The-Organizer- Lady: These ideas aren’t bad
for the rest of us who are adults. Get rid of the junk,
keep only the best, and finish up one activity before
starting another.

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet
very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the
right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
